Recently JR’s Mimi asked me for some ideas for his Easter basket this year. Lately his favorite toy is a Christmas cookie tin- he loves to bang on that thing! With this in mind I thought it might be a good time to introduce some musical toys for him to play with. I suggested music toys to Mimi and she thought this was a great idea. One of my top priorities as a mom is to try to keep my child’s toys as safe and non-toxic as possible. After doing a ton of research, here are the best options on the market in 2024. Below are my favorites for musical toys. This list is especially for younger babies and toddlers under age 3. All the toys below are from reputable brands that use non-toxic materials and who keep sustainability in mind.

PlanToys
PlanToys have a big focus on sustainability and safety. Almost all of their products are made in Thailand using chemical-free rubberwood, formaldehyde-free glue, organic pigments and water-based dyes. Plantoys are very high quality and made of natural materials. They have quite a few options for music toys- some of my favorites were the solid drum, xylophone, and rainstick.
Green Tones
This toy company’s sole focus is on music based toys for kids under 3 and they have many well made options! Their toys are made in India using rubberwood, non-toxic clear coats, and VOC free paints. Since these are designed for children under 3 their toys are perfect for little hands. Some of my favorites included their tom-tom and maracas! They also have an adorable drum set if you are looking for an all-in-one toy.
Maple Landmark
This company makes all of their wooden toys in the USA, how cool is that! This family business has been making their products since 1979 and they are big on sustainability and safety. They make quite a few music toys, my favorites being their bell rattle, cow bell, and rhythmic hedgehog.
Haba
Haba makes a few of their toys in Germany and a larger portion in China. Due to safety concerns and labor practices I try to avoid Chinese made products if possible. One of the musical toys that Haba does make in their German factory are these adorable egg shakers (perfect for Easter!).
